The War Memorial for Auchtergaven Partish is a stone cairn situated on raised ground to the right as one enters the village of Bankfoot from the South. The memorial is just to the South of the now ruined parish Church for Bankfoot, and the churchyard.
A bronze panel commemorates the names of 79 men who lost their lives in the First World War, and an additional panel commemorates 8 men who fell in the Second World War. Photos of the panels and details of the names can be found on the Scottish War Memorials website.
An Officer who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.
2nd Lieutenant Peter Aitchison. Yorkshire Regiment,
formerly 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys). Son of George and Mary Aitchison,
Berryhill, Bankfoot, Perthshire; husband of Helen Frances Aitchison (nee Tait),
of 16, South Road, West Hartlepool. Killed 8 May 1918. Aged 23.
Commemorated on Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.
