The War Memorial for Aveley (Essex) is a Celtic cross on a shaft and rounded plinth, set on a two stepped base. The memorial is set in a small enclosure off the High Street, beside the entrance to St. Michael's Church. In the photo, above, the church can just be glimpsed on the left.

42 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the First World War.
16 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the Second World War, together with one from a recent conflict.

Private David Carson. 35017. 13th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Formerly 32729 Essex Regiment. Husband of M. A. Carson, of Mill Rd., Aveley, Purfleet, Essex. Died 13 April 1918. Aged 33.
Born Averley (Essex), Enlisted Grays, Resided Averley (Purfleet, Essex).
Commemorated on Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.
