The War Memorial for Berkhamsted is situated immediately outside the main door of St. Peter's Church in Berkhamsted. The monument bears the inscription TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD and has eight panels bearing the names of the fallen from 1914-18 and four panels of names from 1939-45.
Inside the church there is another War Memorial, in marble.

The names of all those commemorated on these memorials has been researched by the Dacorum Heritage Trust, and are shown on their website.
3 of the names from the First World War are soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment. One of these men was an Officer, with further details of him on the Masonic Great War Project website.


Captain Thomas Charteris. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of David and Mary Little Charteris; husband of Minnie Charteris, of Dinwoodie, Berkhamsted, Herts. Killed 26 September 1915. Aged 45.
Commemorated on Panel 44 and 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.

Private Alexander George Lees. 10466. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Florence Lees, of 15, Holliday St., Berkhamsted, Herts, and the late Alexander Lees. Killed 23 July 1916. Aged 22.
Born Berkhamsted, Enlisted London, Resided Berkhamsted.
Commemorated Kingdom Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Private Harold Alfred Shrimpton. 235328. 20th Battalion The King's (Liverpool Regiment), formerly 4782 the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of S. Shrimpton, of 57, Blossoms End, Berkhamsted, Herts. Killed 13 January 1918.
Born Gt. Harely (Oxford), Enlisted Berkhamsted (Herts), Resided Berkhamsted.
Buried OUTTERSTEENE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, BAILLEUL.
