Bettrechies Communal Cemetery (1)
Photo : Chris Weekes (<weebex12@hotmail.com>)
This cemetery is within the area traversed by the British Expeditionary Force in August 1914, but was then occupied by the Germans until almost the end of the war.
Bettrechies Communal Cemetery contains 33 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, five of them unidentified. Of the 28 identified burials, 22 are of soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment. All of these men were killed on the same day (only 5 days before the war ended) in an action on the French-Belgian border, when the German forces were being pushed back.
