The First World War Memorial for the Salisbury Road Council School, Bootle, is now located in the Thomas Gray Primary Scholl, Chestnut Grove, Bootle. The above photo of the memorial was kindly provided to us by "Julia", who is on the staff of the school.

The names of 100 past pupils are commemorated on the memorial. A description of the memorial, with a list of all the names commemorated can be found on the Merseyside Roll of Honour website.

Two men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are shown on this memorial.


Private George Richardson. 34173. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 17/29603 Cheshire Regt. Killed 29 October 1918.
Born Bootle (Lancs), Enlisted Birkenhead, Resided Bootle.
Buried TEZZE BRITISH CEMETERY.

Private Arthur Percy Monether. 35328.
4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 46947 74th T R Battn. Son of Margaret Monether, of 40, Grove St., Bootle, Liverpool, and the late Thomas Monether. Killed 9 April 1918. Aged 18.
Born Bootle (Lancs), Enlisted Waterloo, Resided Bootle.
Buried CROIX-DU-BAC BRITISH CEMETERY.
