Brompton-by-Sawdon's War Memorial

The Brompton-by-Sawdon War memorial is at the East end of the village. It sits beside the A170 (Thirsk to Scarborough road), just opposite the Forge Restaurant.
The memorial is dedicated to the men of "Brompton and Sawdon", but the name of the village on modern day maps is Brompton-by-Sawdon. The memorial commemorates 13 men who lost their lives in the First World War, and 4 men from the Second World War.
Three of those commemorated served in the Yorkshire Regiment.
Lieutenant Francis Geoffrey Danby. 5th Battalion (Territorial)
Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Lovel and Emma Danby, of Brompton-by-Sawdon, Yorks.
Killed 28 December 1917.
Buried TYNE COT CEMETERY.
Private Edward Foster. 28268. 7th Battalion East Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 5621 the the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Elizabeth and the
late Watson Foster, of Brompton, Yorks. Killed 14 January 1917.
Born Brompton (Yorks), Enlisted Richmond, Resided Scarborough.
Buried GROVE TOWN CEMETERY, MEAULTE.
Private Fred Hart, 115299. 41st Battalion Machine Gun
Corps (Infantry), formerly 205012 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 26 March
1918.
Born Ayton (Yorks), Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried BAC-DU-SUD BRITISH CEMETERY, BAILLEULVAL.
