Stan Grosvenor (<csstan@mametz.fsnet.co.uk>) has photographed the Memorial Cross that is positioned outside St. Mary's Church, Carleton in Craven. In addition, he has also photographed the bronze Memorial Plaque that is inside the same Church. Curiously, although there are 35 names carved on the base of the Memorial Cross, there are only 26 names on the Memorial Plaque.
The names commemorated on the Memorial Cross have been photographed
on the website Craven's
Part in the Great War and may be viewed there.
Carleton in Craven is a small village to the south-west of Skipton, approached
via the A59. The Memorial Cross stands to the left of the church door of St
Mary the Virgin just off the central crossroads and adjacent to the Primary
School.
The names on the Memorial Cross for the Great War are listed below. The names also shown on the Memorial Plaque are indicated by a "P". Inside the Church there is also a volume containing details of each man on the Memorial Cross.
