The War Memorial on Catterick Village Green

The War Memorial on Catterick Village green is a cross, with the memorial engravings on the plinth. The names are on two stone tablets that appear to be replacements for the original inscriptions. One of the faces of the plinth is very worn indeed, and carried the following inscription;-
THE LAND THEY LOVED SHALL WEAR THE FADELESS (?) CROWN HER WARRIORS GAVE HER.

(*) The only "B Bennison" in the CWGC register or SDGW was Private Basil Bennison of the 2nd Battalion Yorks Regt.
(**) Andrew Brigham was a Private (1581) in the 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in 1915, but at the time of death was Acting Serjeant in the 18th Battalion, attached to the King's African Rifles.

Lieutenant George Hanley Hutchinson. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Teasdale Hilton Hutchinson and Gertrude Hutchinson. Born Catterick, Yorks.
Killed 2 March 1916. Aged 28.
