The War Memorial on Catterick Village green is a cross, with the memorial engravings on the plinth. The names are on two stone tablets that appear to be replacements for the original inscriptions. One of the faces of the plinth is very worn indeed, and carried the following inscription;-

THE LAND THEY LOVED SHALL WEAR THE FADELESS (?) CROWN HER WARRIORS GAVE HER.

(*) The only "B Bennison" in the CWGC register or SDGW was Private Basil Bennison of the 2nd Battalion Yorks Regt.
(**) Andrew Brigham was a Private (1581) in the 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in 1915, but at the time of death was Acting Serjeant in the 18th Battalion, attached to the King's African Rifles.

Private George Barker, 30719. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Austin Barker, of Stamford Bridge, York; husband of Ethel Barker, of Academy House, Catterick, York. Killed 2 April 1917. Aged 41.

Private Basil Bennison, 33243. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died 4 August 1918.

Serjeant Alfred Brigham, 265305. 18th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, attached to the 2nd/2nd King's African Rifles. Died 6 September 1918.
Buried LUMBO BRITISH CEMETERY.
Born Catterick (Yorks), Enlisted Catterick, Resided East Appleton (Catterick).

Lieutenant George Hanley Hutchinson. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Teasdale Hilton Hutchinson and Gertrude Hutchinson. Born Catterick, Yorks. Killed 2 March 1916. Aged 28.

Lance Corporal John Ralph Pattison, 1163. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John Thomas and Mary Pattison, of Catterick, Yorks. Died 7 October 1915. Aged 21.

Corporal Ernest Peacock, MM, 200556. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph William and Mary Eliza Peacock, of The Bungalow, Catterick, Yorks. Died 27 May1918. Aged 20.

Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Catterick.

Private Frederick William Robson, 34661. 10th Battalion King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry), formerly 5428 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 25 September 1916.

Private George Ernest Stant, 1507. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of George A. and Mary Stant, of Aran, Catterick, Yorks. Died 24 May 1915. Aged 19.

Born Liverpool, Enlisted Catterick.

Private Frederick Hart Topham, 1533. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Margaret Topham, of 19, Vernon Gardens, Harrowgate Hill, Darlington. Died 14 February 1916. Aged 20.
