Christ Church, Ugthorpe, near Lythe in North Yorkshire, contains several memorials to soldiers in its churchyard. Amongst them is this cross, which is dedicated to Sergeant Clemmitt of the 10th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, who was killed on 28 May 1916. The details relating to Sergeant Clemmitt are;-

Sergeant William Clemmitt. 19293. 10th Battalion Yorkshires Regiment. Son of William and Martha Clemmitt, of Borrowby Grange, Staithes, Yorks. Native of Ellerby, Yorks. Killed 28 May 1916. Aged 28.
Born Ellerby (Yorks), Enlisted Whitby, Resided Ellerby (Hinderwell, Yorks)
Buried in DARTMOOR CEMETERY, BECORDEL-BECOURT.
