The Christ Church College, Oxford, War Memorial is located in the main entrance to the Cathedral from Tom Quad. The memorial shows the names of all those members of the College and Cathedral community, including staff, who lost their lives in the First World War.
The memorial is comprehensively described in https://www.chch.ox.ac.uk/education-and-visiting/war-memorials together with biographies of those named on the memorial.

We are extremely grateful to the Revd Ralph Williamson, the Christ Church College Chaplain and Website Editor, for permission to use the information and photographs.

The names of three men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorial.


Lieutenant Norman Martin Bruce. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Florence Emma Bruce, of Hill Crest, Whitby, Yorks. Educated at Winchester and Christ Church, Oxford, and just about to be called to the Bar. Killed 7 August 1915. Aged 25.
Commemorated Panel 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

Lieutenant Edouard Majolier. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 26 November 1918. Aged 30.
Served at the Battle of St. Juilen with the 5th Battalion. Awarded a Silver War Badge, November 1917. Death registered at St. George's, Hanover Square, London. Was the son of Edouard and Susannah Majolier and husband of Geraldine C Mojolier.

2nd Lieutenant Herbert Melville Wright. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Francis Henry and Agnes Mary Wright, of 7, Addington Rd., Reading. Killed 2 April 1917. Aged 19.
