The War Memorial for Collyhurst (Manchester)

The Collyhurst War Memorial is located on Rochdale Road (between Collyhurst Street and Queens Road).
The memorial is a simple Cross on a two tier plinth. The upper octagonal plinth is mounted on a square plinth which bears the names of those commemorated. The whole is enclosed within railings.

The memorial commemorates 421 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War, with an additional name added as recently as 2012.

2 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment arecommemorated on this memorial.

Private John Davenport, 235165. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Robert and Mary Ann Box Davenport, of 221, Lower Broughton Rd., Salford, Manchester. Killed 23 April 1917. Aged 28.
Born Salford, Enlisted Manchester.
Commemorated on Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.

2nd Lieutenant George Herbert Gorton. 11th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 9th Battalion. Son of Thomas and S. A. Gorton, of 52, Glen Avenue, Blackley, Manchester. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 19.
(George Herbert Gorton was initially a Private (2952) in the Royal Scots Regiment before being commissioned into the Yorkshire Regiment).
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
