This Compstall War Memorial is situated near the entrance to St. Paul's Church. The village of Compstall was originally in Cheshire, but boundary changes now place it in Stockport.

30 names are commemorated on this memorial as having lost their lives in the First World War. Carl's Cam website has provided a complete transcription of all the names (together with a photo of part of one of the commemorative panels) and the dedication on the memorial.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is named on the memorial.


Private Albert Smith. 75453. 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 84047 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Sarah Ellen Smith; husband of Harriet Smith, of 319, Rose Brow, Compstall, Stockport. Killed 26 September 1918. Aged 31.
Born Compstall (Cheshire), Enlisted Derby.
Buried GLAGEON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.
