The War Memorial for Dodworth (Barnsley)

The Dodworth War Memorial is located at the junction of Dodworth Green Road and the High Street.
The memorial comprises a life-size figure of a serviceman in unform with
rifle standing on guard. This figure is mounted on a pedestal with cornice,
on a three-stepped base.
55 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War,
and 23 for the Second World War. The names are carved into two of the sides
on the pedestal.
Two soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
Private Clifford Hoyland, 53632. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Tom and Harriet Hoyland, of Dodworth; husband of Alice Hoyland, of
72, High St., Dodworth, Barnsley. Killed 29 October 1918. Aged 35.
Born Dodworth (Nr. Barnsley, Yorks), Enlisted Pennistone, Resided Dodworth.
Buried CROSS ROADS CEMETERY.
Private William Simpson. 35904. 9th Battalion Duke of Wellington's
(West Riding Regiment), formerly 60179 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 12 October
1918.
Born Hoyland (Yorks), Enlisted Barnsley (Yorks).
