The War Memorial for in the Excelsior Club in Dunston is a large (7 ft x 9ft) oak-framed commemorative Roll of Honour. In the centre section are the names of 41 men who lost their lives in the First World War. On either side of these names are those of men who served and returned.
Above the names are photo portraits of the men who are commemorated.

A full description of this memorial, together with a transcription of all the names, is provided on the North East War Memorials Project website.

A view from Google Earth of the Excelsior Club, located on Staithes Road, is shown below.

1 soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.

We are very grateful to Ken J Fitzpatrick for permission to use his photograph of the War Memorial.

Private William Lowrey. 30255. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 5681 Northumberland Fus. Killed 18 September 1918.
Born Dalmuir (Dumbarton), Enlisted Newcastle-on-Tyne.
Buried NIEDERZWEHREN CEMETERY.
(Private Lowrey's name is spelled as "Lowery" on the War Memorial and the Excelsior Club Memorial in Dunston, as well as the transcription on the North East War Memorials Project website. However, the corect spelling, as per the CWGC and SDGW, is almost certainly "Lowrey".)
