The First World War Memorial for the County Durham Constabulary is held in the Headquarters for the Durham Police Force at Aykley Heads in the City of Durham.
There are 52 names on the memorial.
Of those commemorated, 1 was a soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
Serjeant Herbert Lister. 7569. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Killed 14 May 1915.
Born Osmotherley (Northallerton), Enlisted Northallerton.
Buried GUARDS CEMETERY, WINDY CORNER, CUINCHY.
(Although there appears to be no connection between Serjeant Lister and Crook,
his name doesn't appear on either the Osmotherley or the Northallerton memorials.
As Serjeant Lister's name appears on the Durham Police Memorial, it would
appear that he would have been stationed as a policeman in Crook).
