Although there are two Commonwealth War Graves in Easington
(All Saints) Churchyard. neither of these is for a soldier who served in the
Yorkshire Regiment.
However, there is a family headstone which commemorates a soldier of the Yorkshire
Regiment.
Private John William Dowey, 10930. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment,
transferred to 479264 Labour Corps. Son of David Dowey, of "Ocean View,"
Sandsend, nr. Whitby, Yorks., and the late Hannah Eliza Dowey. Of Easington,
Yorks. Wounded at the Dardanelles, 22nd Aug., 1915; on the Somme, Aug., 1916;
and again at Ypres, in Aug., 1917. Died 27 August 1918. Aged 23.
Born Liverton (Yorks), Enlisted Whitby (Yorks), Resided Loftus (Yorks)
Buried LES BARAQUES MILITARY CEMETERY, SANGATTE.
