The War Memorial for Easington Colliery is located in Easington Colliery's
Cemetery.
Behind the War Memorial is a Memorial Garden for the victims of the Easington
Colliery disaster of 29 May 1951 in which 83 men lost their lives. 72 of these
men are buried in this Memorial Garden,
The War Memorial commemorates the dead from both World Wars, as well as one from a more recent conflict.

21 March 1918. Aged 33.

Co. Durham. Killed 26 July 1916. Aged 37.

Private Robert Kell. 16411. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of William and Mary Kell, of Framwellgate Moor, Co. Durham. Died at home
19 March 1919. Aged 34. Enlisted Richmond, Resided Framwellgate (Durham).
Buried EASINGTON VILLAGE (DURHAM LANE) CEMETERY.
Private Kell's Pension Record survives in the National Archives. He enlisted
with the 2nd Battalion in November 1914, and was discharged in March 1919
as being medically unfit. His disabilities included his left leg being amputated,
together with gunshot wounds in the neck and right arm.
Robert Kell was a miner, and was unmarried.

Son of Robert Henry Neil, of 4, Bede St., Easington Colliery, Co. Durham.
Killed 14 September 1916. Aged 26.

(NOTES :
1. Charles' brother, James, also in the 7th Battalion was killed 4 months
later and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
2. In the CWGC Register, Charles' age is given as 19. However, his correct
age at time of death was only 17, as he was born on 27 July 1898. Ref : Sheila
