The First World War Memorial for Emma Colliery, West Ryton, is a dedicatory stone tablet fixed to the outside of the Emma Colliery Workmen's Memorial Hall. The tablet is flanked by two bronze plaques carrying figures of Angels carrying miners' lamps. In turn, these are flanked by plaques commemorating those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
The Workmen's Memorial Hall is situated on the B6317 between Ryton and Crawcrook, just past the junction with Emmaville.

58 Names are commemorated for the First World War, and 22 for the Second World War.

The website "Ryton and District War Memorials Project" has a transcription of the names together with photographs of the memorial.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this Memorial.

9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Isabella Robson, of 8, Beverley Gardens, Barmoor, Ryton, Co. Durham. Killed 24 October 1918. Aged 26.
Born Midgholme (Northumberland), Enlisted Ryton (Co. Durham).
Buried CROSS ROADS CEMETERY, FRANCE.
