He was killed in action on 21 June 1915, aged 42, and is buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery.

John William Buxton was a steel works labourer and attested on 31 August 1914. However, due to ill health (he had been in Hemlington Hospital from January 1915) he was discharged on 31 March 1915.
