Of the nine names on the Farlington Memorial, only that of Private R G Hayes appears to be that of a serviceman who fell. The other names will be of men who served.
Edward W Thomas, <edwardwilfrid@comcast.net>, provided information on Private Hayes to this website. Mr Thomas informed us that Private Hayes is commemorated by a stained glass window in St. Leonard's Church, paid for by his family. Photographs of this window are shown below.


Private Rowland Garfield Hayes. 26275. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Mary Hayes, of Farlington, Stillington, York. Killed 22 March 1918. Aged 26.
Born Farlington (Yorks), Enlisted Stillington, Resided Farlington (Easingwold)
Commemorated Panel 31 and 32, Pozieres Memorial.
