This War Memorial is located in the entrance to St. Saviour's Church, Foremark. The memorial is a carved wooden plaque, commemorating 8 men who lost their lives in the First World War. One of these men served in the Yorkshire Regiment.

The church stands in an isolated spot at the top of Church Field Lane close to Foremarke Hall which is now Repton Preparatory School. (Foremark is the modern spelling of the original Parish name).

We are extremely grateful to Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) for providing the photos of the memorial and the information on the soldier.

Private Henry James Bamford, 33651. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Formerly 228632 R A S C. Killed 20 September 1917.
Born Milton (Derbyshire), Enlisted Church Gresley, Resided Swadlincote.
Buried TYNE COT CEMETERY.
(Incorrectly shown on the memorial as being in the East Yorkshire Regiment)

Additional information on Henry James Bamford provided by Richard Roberts;-
James Bamford's birth was registered in the March Qtr. 1884 as Henry James Bamford.
He was born in Milton, the son of Henry & Annie Bamford who, by 1891, had moved to Repton. He seems to have dropped his first name in favour of being known as James as this is how he appears in all the Census records after his birth.
His younger brother, Frederick (b 1894), is also commemorated on the war memorial. He served in the 7th Bn. North Staffs Regiment and was killed 23/7/1915 at Gallipoli. He, like his brother dropped his first name, George, and was known as simply Frederick on the Census records.
