The War Memorial at Gillamoor is in the form of a cross, and is located in front of the Parish Church. On three of the faces, the inscriptions are for men who served at Home and Abroad. On the fourth face is incribed the name of a man from the Yorkshire Regiment who gave his life in the service of the country.

"To the Glory of God and in Honoured Memory of Frederick W Ward who gave his Life for His Country in the Great War 1914 - 1918. Killed at Ypres 2nd March 1916."

Private Frederick William Ward, 3481. 1st / 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph and Annie Ward, of Howland Beck, Low Farndale, Kirkby Moorside, Yorks; husband of Edith Ward. Killed 2 March 1916. Aged 22.
Enlisted Scarborough, Resided Kirbymoorside.
Buried MAPLE COPSE CEMETERY.
