The War Memorial for Grangefield School, Stockton-on-Tees
Grangefield School, Stockton-on-Tees is now the Grangefield Academy and is situated on Oxbridge Avenue, Grangefield, Stockton-on-Tees.
The War Memorial for past students of Grangefield School, Stockton-on-Tees, hangs in the School Hall. The memorial is a wooden plaque bearing the names of 69 men who lost their lives in the First World War. Of these names, 8 are for men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
The dedication of the memorial reads;-
"YE SHALL REMEMBER WITH THANKFUL HUMBLENESS THE GREAT SACRIFICE OF THE
FOLLOWING OLD BOYS OF THIS SCHOOL WHO WENT FORTH ON THE SIDE OF HONOUR AND
RIGHT IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 AND WHO CAME NOT HOME AGAIN.
NOTHING IS HERE FOR TEARS, NOTHING TO WAIL OR KNOCK THE BREAST; NO WEAKNESS,
NO CONTEMPT, DISPRAISE OR BLAME; NOTHING BUT WELL AND FAIR, AND WHAT MAY QUIET
US IN A DEATH SO NOBLE."

Son of George William and Annie Appleby, of 85, Londonderry Rd., Stockton-on-Tees;
husband of Laura Eveline Appleby, of 83, Londonderry Rd., Stockton-on-Tees.
Killed 15 October 1917. Aged 31.
Born Stockton, Enlisted Stockton.

Private David Doughty. 1063. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died
25 April 1915.
Born Yarm (Yorks), Enlisted Yarm, Resided Eaglescliffe Village.

Private Robert Thomas Doughty, 200381. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 20 September 1917.
Born Yarm (Yorks), Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Yarm.

Lance Corporal Walter Wilfred Green, 26148. 9th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of Rose Lydia Green, of 26, Atterby Terrace, Stockton-on-Tees,
and the late John Andrews Green. Killed 6 October 1916. Aged 22.

Serjeant Arnold Thomas Vincent Jonathan Kidd. 24375. 9th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment. Son of George and Annie Kidd, of Ashtree Farm, Stockton-on-Tees.
Died 20 September 1917. Aged 20.
Born Stockton (Durham), Enlisted Stockton-on-Tees, Resided Stockton.

Private Thomas O'Grady. 3172. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Michael and Isabella O'Grady, of 81, Parliament St., Stockton-on-Tees.
Killed 24 May 1915. Aged 22.
Born Stockton-on-Tees, Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Stockton.

Private Robert Norman Raper, 24449. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Robert and Mary Ann Raper, of 6, Stranton St., Thornaby-on-Tees. Killed
on 1 July 1916. Aged 21.
Born Thornaby, Enlisted Stockton, Resided Ingleby Barwick (Yorks).
Buried FRICOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.

9th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, formerly 2387 the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of Francis Henry and Mary Elizabeth Verrill, of "Parkmore,"
Eaglescliffe, Co. Durham. Killed 9 September 1918. Aged 21.
Born Stockton (Durham), Enlisted Middlesbrough.
