The Greenfield (Saddleworth) War Memorial consists of four marble tablets, inscribed with the names of those commemorated, on the wall of St. Mary's Church. Two of the tablets carry the names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. Two other tablets, joined to each of the first of the First World War tablets, carries the names of those killed in the Second World War.
40 men who lost their lives in the First World War, and 17 from the Second World War, are shown. Additionally, there is a memorial stained glass window dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First World War.
We are extremely grateful to Mike Berrell for providing the photographs of this memorial. Mike Berrell has presented photos of the memorial, and a transcription of the names of those on the memorial, on the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society website.
