The War Memorial in Gunnerside stands in front of the Wesleyan Chapel. Seven names from the First World War, and two from the Second World War, are commemorated on this memorial. One soldier from the Yorkshire Regiment is named.


Private Woodward Sunter. 88295. 17th Battalion Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 7053 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Sunter, of Spring End, Gunnerside, Richmond; husband of Ruth Sunter, of Gunnerside, Richmond, Yorks. Killed 21 September 1918. Aged 31.
Born Grinton (Yorks), Enlisted Gunnerside.
Buried THILLOY ROAD CEMETERY, BEAULENCOURT.
