There are several War Memorials in the Minster Church of St. John the Baptist, Halifax (formerly the Parish Church for Halifax). In addition to Boer War Memorials and a memorial to the 6th Battalion the Duke of Welllington's Regiment in the First World War, there is a First World War Memorial apparently for the parishioners from Halifax. This particular memorial is shown in the photo above.

A description of Halifax's First World War Memorial is provided on the Imperial War Museum's website and reads thus;-
"Rectangular board in the shape of an arched window with two lancets. At the base of the board is a plinth, decorated with carved leaves. There is a relief carved crown surrounded by sun rays. Around the arch is moulded decoration. Two lancets are filled with doors which open outwards on hinges and are incised on the reverse with the dedicated names."
The dedication reads;-
"Upper panel: TO THE MEN OF THIS CHURCH WHO AT THE CALL OF KING AND COUNTRY LEFT ALL THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM/ ENDURED HARDNESS, FACED DANGER AND FINALLY PASSED OUT THE SIGHT OF MEN BY THE PATH/ OF DUTY AND SELF-SACRIFICE GIVING THEIR LIVES THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM./ LET THOSE WHO COME AFTER SEE TO IT THAT THEIR NAMES BE NOT FORGOTTEN./ 1914-1919. Plinth: THESE ARE THEY WHICH CAME OUT OF GREAT TRIBULATION. "

99 names have been carved into the panels and have been photographed by BereniceUK of the warmemorials.myfastforum.org website (see below).
