The First World War Memorial in the Church of St. Margaret, Hawes, is in the form of wooden panelling enclosing the West doorway. Above the panels there is a dedication in gothic carving that reads;-

"To the Glory of God and in Memory of the Men of this Parish who Fell in the Great War 1914-1918"

There are six panels which carry the names of the following men;-

Private John Dinsdale, 36063. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Ann Dinsdale, of Garris, Gayle, Hawes, Yorks. Killed 28 September 1917. Aged 24.
Born Hawes (Yorks), Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Hawes.
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Private John William Horn, 5176. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Jeremiah H. and Margaret Ann Horn, of Burtersett, Hawes; husband of Jane Ann Horn, of Burtersett, Hawes, Yorks. Killed 27 September 1916. Aged 20.
Born Burtersett (Hawes, Yorks), Enlisted Askrigg, Resided Hawes (Yorks).
Commemorated Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Private Nathan Burton Iveson, 39267. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Brother of J. Iveson, of Gayle Lane, Hawes, Yorks. Killed 4 October 1917. Aged 29.
Born Hawes (Yorks), Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Hawes (Yorks).
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Private John Jackson, 30656. 1st Battalion the East Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 20537 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Hannah Jackson, of Appersett, Hawes, Yorks. Killed 16 April 1918. Aged 23.
Born Hawes, Enlisted Leyburn (Yorks).
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Private John Mitton, 30383. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Warren and Helen Mitton; husband of Mary Teresa Mitton, of Hill Top, Leyburn, Yorks. Killed 9 April 1917. Aged 40.
Born Hawes (Yorks), Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Askrigg.
Buried NEUVILLE-VITASSE ROAD CEMETERY.

Private Harold Moore, 60619. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Richard and Mary Moore, of Catriggs, Hawes, Yorks. Killed 24 October 1918. Aged 20.
Born Mirkport (Hawes, Yorks), Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Hawes.
Buried PREMONT BRITISH CEMETERY.

Private Thomas Thwaite. 242720. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 11 April 1918.
