The Hawick municipal Roll of Honour is located next to Hawick
War Memorial in Wilton Lodge museum.
It consists of highly elaborate hand painted scrolls housed in double sided
wooden cabinets.
It remembers the 692 Hawick casualties from the Great War and 122 from the
Second.
Two soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this Roll of Honour.
Private Ronald Cameron. 46197. 12th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Formerly 213578 RE. Died 11 April 1918.
Born Carvers (Roxburghshire), Enlisted Hawick.
Commemorated on Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.

Private Alexander Stenhouse. 42890. 8th Battalion the
Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 166284 R F A. Son of James and Janet Stenhouse,
of Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Killed 27 October 1918. Aged 21.
Born Edinburgh, Enlisted Hawick (Roxburghshire).
Buried TEZZE BRITISH CEMETERY.

The Hawick War Memorial is in the form of a cenotaph with a naked figure of "Youth" in front. When unveiled the memorial caused considerable indignation and outrage, as it was felt that the sculpture before the memorial was not "decent".
