The War Memorial for Herne Bay, Kent, is situated in Memorial
Park, Pier Chine, Herne Bay.
The memorial is a rough-hewn red sandstone pillar surmounting three-stepped
base. The dedication is written in black lettering on inset smooth panels.
One Officer who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial for Herne Bay, Kent.
2nd Lieutenant Sydney Morris. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 7 August 1915. Aged 39.
Commemorated on Panels 55 to 58 HELLES MEMORIAL.
Sydney Morris was one of the 6 children born to Benjamin John
Morris (b. 1845) and Florence Elizabeth Morris. He was born in Q3 1876 in
Reigate, Surrey.
His father was a tea importer and at some point was resident in Foochow, China.
However, in 1901 the family was living in Clapham Common South Side, London.
On his death, Sydney Morris left £40/10s/9d to his father. His medals
were sent to his father, then living in "Helston", Herne Bay.
