Rachel Farrand (<farrand.rachel@btinternet.com>) has kindly forwarded photos of the War Memorial outside the Village Hall, Hickling (Notts). The photographs were taken for the United Kingdom War Memorials Project, who are happy that they be shown on this website, but copyright remains with Rachel Farrand.

Two soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.

Rachel provides the following information on the memorial;-
"There are photographs of the WW1 and WW2 memorials from the village school which includes the names (of the Simpson brotherr). The memorials are on the outside wall of the Village Hall which I think used to be the school (although altered since it was converted)."


Corporal Cecil Simpson. 29799. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 32097 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of Mrs. S. A. Simpson, of Rose Cottage, Hickling, Notts, and the late George Simpson. Killed 23 November 1917. Aged 29.
Born Hickling Melton Mowbray (Leicester), Enlisted Loughborough.
Commemorated on Panel 5 of the CAMBRAI MEMORIAL, LOUVERVAL.

Lance Corporal Charlie Simpson. 29488. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 32097 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of Mrs. S. A. Simpson, of Rose Cottage, Hickling, Notts, and the late George Simpson. Killed 12 July 1917. Aged 29.
Born Hickling Melton Mowbray (Leicester), Enlisted Loughborough.
Buried FINS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, SOREL-LE-GRAND.
