Born Jarrow, Enlisted Houghton-le-Spring, Resided Newbottle (Fencehouses).

Private Joseph Wheatley, 260140. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment,
formerly 5426 Durham L I. Killed 26 March 1918.
Enlisted Houghton-le-Spring.
Commemorated on Panel 31 and 32, POZIERES MEMORIAL.
(Two "Joseph Wheatley" names are on the Houghton-le-Spring town
War Memorial. Either one could be the name on the Church War Memorial, so
it is hoped that this is the correct Joseph Wheatley).

Killed 10 July 1916.
