The War Memorial for Hunslet is located in the churchyard of the now demolished St. Peter's church, located in Dewsbury Road.

The memorial is a column surmounted by a wheel cross, mounted on an octagonal plinth. The commemorative panels are fixed to the sides of the plinth.

279 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated on the memorial. Photos of all the memorial panels are shown on the City of Leeds WW1 Memorials website. The panels with the names of Private Birkett, Corporal Clapham, and Private Smith are shown on this page. The panel with Private Haddock's name on it can be seen on the City of Leeds WW1 Memorials website.

7 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the Memorial.
1 Yorkshire Regiment soldier who lived in Hunslet, however, is not commemorated on the memorial though his name is shown below.

We are very grateful to The Chairman 8 for allowing the use of his photos of the memorial.

(George Alfred Haddock is shown on the memorial as "C A Haddock". Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) has researched this mis-naming and makes the following comments;-
"George Alfred Haddock was born in the Sept Qtr 1887 in the Leeds RD. He appears in the 1891 Census living with his grandmother In the St Peter Parish, Leeds - no sign of his parents. Then in 1901, he is found living with an Uncle and Aunt in the same part of Leeds.
In George’s Service Record, his widow is noted as living at 18 Berwick Place, Dewsbury Road, Leeds an area which in recent years has been cleared and redeveloped. Berwick Place was relatively to St Peter’s Church and the Hunslet War Memorial.
The memorial was refurbished in 2006 with new plaques to replace the original lettering. Presumably this had become badly weathered over 80 years or so and It is not so unusual for the letter G to be confused with C. ")
