The Idle War Memorial is the lych gate at the entrance to Holy Trinity Church, Idle. The names of those commemorated as having lost their lives in the two World Wars are inscribed on the two walls of the lych gate.
Unfortunately, there is no photo of the actual commemorations.

The memorial commemorates 154 names from the First World War and 61 names from the Second World War.
The names commemorated are inscribed on the inside walls of the lych gate.
A transcription of all the names on the memorial can be found on the Calverley website, as well as the GENUKI website.

Amongst the names commemorated on the memorial are those of two soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.


Serjeant Albert Goldsborough. 36194. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 10070 West Riding Regt. Killed 9 April 1917.
Born Swinton (Rotherham), Enlisted Halifax, Resided Rotherham (Yorks).
Buried BUQUOY ROAD CEMETERY.

Private John Pitts. 201909. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 1 January 1917.
Born Idle, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Bradford.
Buried WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY.
