The War Memorial for Ilkeston, Derbyshire

The Ilkeston War Memorial is in the form of a Cenotaph and is situated in the Town's Market Place. The memorial commemorates some 376 local men who fell in the First World War. Amongst these are five men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
Private Arthur Aram. 60724. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of Arthur and Elizabeth Aram, of 29, Williams St., Parkgate,
Rotherham; husband of Vera Angela Aram, of 31, Church St., Greasbro Rotherham.
Killed 5 May 1919. Aged 30.
Born Ilkeston (Derbyshire), Enlisted Parkgate, Resided Rotherham.
Commemorated on the ARCHANGEL MEMORIAL.

Private Edward Nelson Walthall Pearson. 78999. 1st/7th
Battalion Durham Light Infantry, formerly 88075 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son
of Mrs. Alice B. Pearson, of 5, Granby St., Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Killed 10
April 1918. Aged 19.
Born Ilkeston (Derbyshire), Enlisted Ilkeston (Derbyshire).
Commemorated Panel 8 and 9, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.
Private Sydney Smith. 53595. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 40711 West Riding Regt. Son of Robert and Emily Kate Smith,
of 2, Firth Rd., West Melton, Rotherham. Born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Killed
16 November 1918. Aged 27.
Born Ilkeston (Derbyshire), Enlisted Barnsley (Yorks), Resided Bolton.
Buried ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN.

Private Ernest Alonza Turner. 29463. 13th Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 28658 Sherwood Forseters. Son of Mr. T. and
Mrs. L. E. Turner, of 167, Nottingham Rd., Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Killed 20
July 1916. Aged 18.
Born Ilkeston (Derbyshire), Enlisted Ilkeston.
Buried BETHUNE TOWN CEMETERY.
Private William Broughton Wilson. 243804. 5th Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment.
Husband of Lois Wilson, of 19, Flamstead Rd., Ilkeston.
Died at home 22 September 1918. Age 28
Born Cotmanhay (Derbyshire), Enlisted Ilkeston.
Buried ILKESTON (PARK)
