The War Memorial at Keld, Swaledale

The War Memorial at Keld is a marble plaque set in a wall, with the following inscription;-
THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918
THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE ON THIS WALL
FOR THEIR COUNTRY GAVE THEIR ALL:
COMING HITHER, PASSING THENCE,
HOLD THEIR NAMES IN REVERENCE.
The following names are recorded on the Memorial;-
Richard Alderson
Thomas Clarkson
William Waller Hutchinson
Robert Rukin
The same names are also recorded on the Memorial Plaque in the
church of St. Mary, Muker.
Thomas Clarkson, of the DLI, is buried in a Commonwealth War Grave in the cemetery
of this church.
Private Richard Alderson, 28136. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of William and Margaret Alderson, of Angram Muker, Swaledale,
Richmond, Yorks. Killed on 26 September 1917. Aged 21.
Born Skeegh (Yorks), Enlisted Satron (Yorks), Resided Angram (Richmond, Yorks)
Commemorated Panel 33, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Private Thomas Clarkson was of the 9th Battalion Durham Light
infantry.

Private William Waller Hutchinson was of the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire
Regiment.

Private Robert Rukin, 38180. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed on 29 September 1918.

Buried SUCRERIE CEMETERY, EPINOY.
