The War Memorial for Launceston (Cornwall) is an elaborate octagonal Eleanor Cross mounted on a stepped base. The memorial is located in Launceston's town centre.
81 men who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated on this memorial, together with 33 men from the Second World War. The names of these men, with brief biographical details, have been transcribed on the Cornwall's War History Remembered website.
One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.
Private John Henry Hutchings, 33969. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 19884 A V C. Son of M. Rowe (formerly Hutchings) and the
late Thomas Hutchings, of North Petherwin, Launceston; husband of Blanche
Hutchings, of South Battens, North Hill, Launceston. Cornwall. Killed 1 January
1918. Aged 36.
Born South Sydenham (Devon), Enlisted Launceston (Cornwall).
