Lealholm War Memorial, outside the Church.

The Lealholm War Memorial stands on the village Green, overlooking the River Esk. It is located in front of St. James' Church and records the names of those who went to war in the First World War (and survived) as well as those who lost their lives. The memorial also includes a single name from the Second World War.
On the Lealholm War Memorial 44 men are recorded as having fought and survived
in the First World War.
12 names are recorded as having died in the First World War.
The names of those who appear on the Lealholm War Memorial as having died between 1914 - 1919 are;-
Private John William Coverdale. 9/7248. 1st/9th Battalion Durham
Light Infantry, formerly 28680 11th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son
of Mrs. Maria Coverdale, of Prospect House, Lealholm, Grosmont, Yorks. Killed
7 November 1916. Aged 34.
Born Danby, Enlisted Whitby, Resided Grosmont.
Buried DERNANCOURT COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.
Private Frank Hart, 15214. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed in action on 31 March 1917. Aged 21. Son of Frank and A.
E. Hart, of Esk Vale Farm, Lealholm, Yorks.
Born Ugthorpe (Whitby), Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Lealholme (Grosmont)
Commemorated Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
(*) C F A Ley and M A ley were the two sons of Sir Francis Ley,
1st Bart. and of Lady Ley, of Lealholm Lodge.
J Y Light was the son of Thomas Light, of Glebe Farm, Lealholm. This is the
next door farm to Esk Vale Farm where Private Frank Hart lived. The two men
will almost certainly have been boyhood friends.
