Leuze Communal Cemetery (1)
Photo : Richard Roberts.
Leuze was in German hands from August 1914, until it was entered by Commonwealth forces on 10 November 1918. The communal cemetery was used by German medical units and, during the last fortnight of November 1918, by No. 44 and No. 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Stations.
The cemetery contains 58 Commonwealth burials of the First World War. There are also four Second World War burials, two of them unidentified, dating from May 1940 and the withdrawal of the British Expeditionary Force to Dunkirk ahead of the German advance.
Amongst the graves are those of four soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
We are extremely grateful to Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) and to Robert Lestrade who have generously provided the photographs on this page.

From Private Moody's Service Record;-
He was born on 11 February 1899.
He enlisted into the 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in Northallerton on
22 September 1915, aged only 16. Service No 2706.
His father, Edward, worked for the firm A H Moody in Northallerton, Yorkshire,
and somebody from that firm (his mother Mrs M H Moody?) wrote a note giving
permission for Harold to enlist into the regiment as a Drummer Boy.
The family address was South End, Northallerton.
On enlistment, Harold Moody was too young for overseas service and spent the
next 3 years serving at home with the 4th and 5th Battalions of the Yorkshire
Regiment.
On 23 July 1917 he was posted to the 4th Reserve Battalion Royal Scots Regiment.
(Service No 202742)
On 28 March 1918 he was posted to serve overseas with the Royal Scots Regiment.
He was posted missing between 9 and 14th April 1918, and was found to have
been a Prisoner of War.
He died in a POW hospital, of pneumonia, on 3 July 1918.
