The Memorial Plaque in St. Matthew's Church, Leyburn is inscribed as follows;-
"To the Glory of God and to Keep in Remembrance the names of the Following Men Who gave Their Lives in the Great European War".

Lance Corporal Alfred Ward Salmon. 241698. 5th Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 16 February 1919. Aged 36.
Resided Leyburn.
Buried DARLINGTON WEST CEMETERY.
L/Cpl Alfred Salmon was a grocer's assistant who worked in Leyburn, but his
mother and brother lived in Darlington. He was discharged form the army on
15 April 1918 as a result of wounds. Although his relatives were
awarded a commemorative plaque and scroll, he is not listed in the CWGC records.

Killed 8 July 1916.
Born Leyburn (Yorks), Enlisted Richmond.
Buried LONDON CEMETERY AND EXTENSION, LONGUEVAL.
(Number = 23433 in SDGW, but 9456 agrees with GH Gazette database).
