There are two War Memorial panels in Christ Church, Liversedge. The First World War Memorial commemorates 99 men who lost their lives in the war, and Second World War Memorial commemorates 45 names.
Outside the church is a Calvary which is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First World War.

The names of all those commemorated on these memorials has been transcribed on the Yorkshire Indexers website by G Hodgson, and we are very grateful for the use of the photographs and information.

Eight men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the First World War memorial.


Serjeant Ralph Cecil Bates. 27512.
2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Edmond and Martha Elizabeth Bates, of Upper Armley, Leeds. Died at home 30 September 1920. Aged 27.
Enlisted Halifax, Resided Cleckheaton.
Buried LEEDS NEW WORTLEY CEMETERY.

Serjeant Ambrose Brook. 14983. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Elizabeth A. Brook, of 12, Hindley Rd., Liversedge, Yorks, and the late Louis A. Brook. Killed 1 July 1916. Aged 28.
Born Liversedge, Enlisted Dewsbury, Resided Liversedge.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

2nd Lieutenant Joseph Alfred Child. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, attd. 69th T M Bty. Son of Mary Louisa Child, of 6, Moorland Mount, Cleckheaton, Yorks, and the late Ben Child. Born at Liversedge, Yorks. Killed 7 June 1917. Aged 23.
Buried BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY.

Private Sam Crowther. 27391. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Tom and Eliza Crowther, of 74, Knowle Hill, Littletown, Liversedge, Yorks. Killed 1 July 1916. Aged 26.
Born LIversedge (Yorks), Enlisted Cleckheaton, Resided Liversedge.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Private Frederick Gough. 204035. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Victor and Agnes Gough, of 6, Arnold St., Liversedge, Yorks. Killed 15 October 1918. Aged 21.
Born Rawcliffe (Yorks), Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Brompton.
Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL

Serjeant Harold Hampshire, 14610. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Eleanor Jane Hampshire, of 13, Sefton Rd., Morecambe, Lancs. Died 18 October 1917. Aged 30.
Born Liversedge (Yorks), Enlsited Dewsbury, Resided Liversedge.
Commemorated Panel 125 to 128, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Sapper Thomas Henry Leadbeater. 323510. 98th Light Railway Train Crew Coy., Royal Engineers, formerly 24969 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Leadbeater, of 14, Edward St., Hightown, Liversedge, Yorks. Killed 13 December 1917. Aged 23.
Enlisted Cleckheaton (Yorks), Resided Liversedge (Yorks).
Buried ALEXANDRIA (HADRA) WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY.
(Posssibly Thomas Leadbeater was one of the casualties of the troop transport "Aragon" which was torpedoed as it entered port.)

Private George Arthur Taylor. 69218. 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, formerly 26973 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 13 May 1918.
Born Liversedge, Enlisted Heckmondwike, Resided Liversedge.
Buried MAILLY WOOD CEMETERY, MAILLY-MAILLET.
