Richard Roberts (<richard@nosnailshere.co.uk>) has forwarded photos of the Long Eaton War Memorial and the associated Roll of Honour, and provides the following information;-
This War Memorial in Long Eaton stands in front of St Laurence's Church.
The central inscription reads "TO THE FALLEN IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED IN THE TOWN ROLL OF HONOUR"
The Roll of Honour is situated in the nearby Erewash Borough Council Offices and is a long handwritten list of names protected behind glass, which because of reflections is difficult to photograph. However, a full transcription of the 501 names on this Roll of Honour can be found on the Royal British Legion (Long Eaton Branch) website for the memorial. All of the names have been researched by the Branch Secretary Treasurer and Archivist, John Irvin. A spreadsheet with the results of John Irvin's research can be downloaded here.
Amongst the many names there are 6 Yorkshire Regiment men. One of these men, Private Langley, is shown on the Roll of Honour as being from the West Yorkshire Regiment, but John Irvin's spreadsheet correctly places him as having served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
