In St. Mary's Church, Lowdham, there are two war memorials.
The larger brass one is original to the church and commemorates 59 names from
Lowdham, Gunthorpe and Caythorpe who died in the 1914-18 War. It has an extra
plate to record the four men who died in the Second World War.
Near these is the second memorial, an inscribed alabaster memorial, which
came from Ton Lane Wesleyan Church recording thirteen of their congregation
who lost their lives in the First World War. All but two of the names are
recorded on the St Mary’s roll as well.
2 names on the main memorial are those of men who served in the Yorkshire Regiment.
We are extremely grateful to the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project for permission to use the photographs of the memorial and the church.
