The First World War Memorial in St. Michael's Church, Malton commemorates 35 people who lost their lives. The memorial is inscribed as follows;-
"To the Glory of God and in Proud and Grateful Memory of these Brave Men who Gave Their Lives in the Great War 1914 - 1919".
However, note that there is one woman, Sarah Hornsey, amongst the names.
Choristers of the church are marked by an asterisk.

Below the First World War Memorial is a framed commemoration of those who died in the Second World War. 10 names are recorded on this memorial.

Lance Corporal George Wilson Harrison. 203472. 2/5th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, formerly 2539 Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 20 November 1917.

Serjeant Percy Fewster Kendall. 1218. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 27 January 1916.

Private John Knott. 8048. Machine Gun Corps, formerly 24169 Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 5 July 1916.

2nd Lieutenant William Ernest Longster. 10th Battalion the Cheshire Regiment, formerly 2871 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. I. W. and Mrs. A. E. Longster, of 20, Belle Vue Terrace, Malton, Yorks. Killed 22 July 196. Aged 22.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton, Resided Malton.
Buried KNIGHTSBRIDGE CEMETERY, MESNIL-MARTINSART.
(Wiliiam Ernest Longster was originally a Serjeant in the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, before being commissioned into the Leicester Regiment and transferred into the Cheshire Regiment. Before the war, he was a journalist on the staff of the "Malton Messenger". Ref. Malton and the First World War.)

Private Arthur Hougson Perryman. 28197. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Edward and Elizabeth Perryman; husband of Margaret Blanche Gray (formerly Perryman). Killed 20 September 1917. Aged 30.

Private Richard Mark Stubbs, 24531. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James Adam Stubbs and Margaret Ann Stubbs, of 13, Wheelgate, Malton, Yorks. Killed 23 July 1916. Aged 22.

Lieutenant Colonel James Albert Raymond Thomson, DSO. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Croix de Guerre (France). Son of James and Eliza Thomson; husband of Ethel Norah Mayson Thomson, of The Uplands, Malton, Yorks. Born at Huddersfield.
Killed 27 May 1918. Aged 42.

Private Frank Ware. 204024. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas Ware, of 2, Middlecave Rd., Malton. Died at home 30 November 1917. Aged 19.
