The War Memorial for Marske (in Cleveland, as opposed to the Marske near Richmond in North Yorkshire) is located on the corner of Redcar Road and Hall Close beside St. Mark's Church. The Memorial is in the form of a cross, standing on a base with four faces, each of which contains a list of men who lost their lives in the First World War.

The names on the four panels are;-

Company Sergeant Major John Binks. 399. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Ann Binks, of 127, High St., Marske-by-the-Sea, Yorks, and the late Edwin John Binks. Killed 14 February 1916. Aged 37.
Born Marske (Yorks), Enlisted Redcar, Resided Marske.

Private Bert Blake. 3147. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 17 September 1916.

Private Ralph Cole. 1588. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. A. and Mrs. S. Cole, of 37, Arthur Terrace, New Marske, Yorks. Killed 16 February 1916. Aged 20.

Gunner Percy Evans. 158198. 116th Siege Bty. Royal Garrison Artillery, formerly 3499 4th Bn the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 27 May 1918.

Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL.

Private Herbert Kirk. 18500. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Ann Kirk, of 101, Dale St., New Marske, Yorks. Killed 30 September 1916. Aged 33.
Born Middlesbrough, Enlisted Redcar.

Private Walter Lettins. 3/8145. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. M. Lettins, of 9, Stable Cottages, New Marske, Marske-by-the-Sea, Yorks. Killed 22 September 1917.
Born Marske, Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided New Marske.

Private Robert Angus Letty. 2337. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Mary Leny, of Osborne House, Marske-by-the-Sea, Yorks. Killed 17 July 1916. Aged 22.
Born Saltburn, Enlisted Redcar, Resided Marske-by-Sea.
Commemorated Panel 33, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Private Ernest Millward. 24571. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James and Elizabeth Ann Millward, of II, Arthur Terrace, New Marske-by-Sea, Yorks. Killed 10 September 1916. Aged 22.
Born New Marske (Yorks), Enlisted New Marske.
Commemorated Panel 44 and 45, Loos Memorial.

Private John Thomas Monck. 3/9331. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Mary Jane Monck, of Marske-by-Sea. Killed 10 October 1916. Aged 35.
Born Marske-by-Sea (Yorks), Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided Commondale (Grosmont).

Private Albert Nelmes. 3231. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William Samuel and Louisa Nelmes, of 2, Zetland Terrace, New Marske-by-the-Sea, Yorks. Killed 15 September 1916. Aged 20.

Lance Corporal George E Palmer, MM. 34761. 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, formerly 3148 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. C. Palmer, of 11, Yeoman Terrace, Marske-by-the-Sea, Yorks. Killed 30 September 1918.

Lance Corporal John Petty. 28326. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Thomas Harker Petty and Sarah Petty, of 115, Childers St., Doncaster; husband of Alice M. Petty, of 3, Henwood Rd., Gomm Rd., London. Killed 7 October 1916. Aged 28.
Born Upleatham (Yorks), Enlisted Redcar, Resided Marske.

(SDGW gives date of death as 10/7/1916 vs CWGC date of 7/10/1916. GH Gazette has J Petty reported as missing in Jan 1917, therefore CWGC date seems correct).

Private Thomas Smallwood. 12415. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Huddlestone and Elizabeth Smallwood, of New Marske. Died at home 21 August 1916. Aged 24.
Born North Marske (Yorks), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Marske.
Buried MARSKE-IN-CLEVELAND (ST. GERMAIN) CHURCHYARD.

Lance Serjeant John Wright. 12232. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of A. M. Wright, of 10, Bradstone New Rd., Folkestone. Killed 10 June 1917. Aged 33.
