The Milford War Memorial is situated at the junction of the A6 Derby - Buxton road and Hopping Hill.

One soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial. Richard Clarke of the Derby and Derbyshire War memorials Project (http://derbyshirewarmemorials.wikispaces.com/Milford) identified Winfield Land's name on the memorial and forwarded the following information.


Private Winfield Land. 237541. 692nd 692nd Agricultural Company, Labour Corps, formerly 57149, 2nd/4th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Jedidiah and Sarah Ann Land; husband of Susan Land, of 1, Wood Lane, Sunny Hill, Milford, Derby. Died at home 23 November 1918. Aged 39.
Born Farnah Green, Derbyshire.
Buried DUFFIELD CEMETERY.
(From the 1911 Census : Winfield Land was a domestic groom. Husband of Susan, and father of Jediah, John Thomas and Susan Land, of 4, Forge Hill Place, Makeney, Derbyshire)

Note : In the CWGC he is shown as Wingfield Land, but does not appear in SDGW.
