The War Memorial for Mossley,Tameside

The Mossley War Memorial is positioned in front of the former Town Hall, which stands in an elevated position overlooking Mossley. The former Town Hall was originally built in 1864 as a grand house for a local Cottonmaster. However, it is now once again being used as a private residence.

The names of the fallen are not shown on this memorial. The dedication says "THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919" "TO
OUR GLORIOUS DEAD" "ERECTED ON BEHALF OF THE TOWN BY ALDERMAN AND JP J.A. BOTTOMLEY IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE".

Three soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment came from Mossley, and are amongst those to whom the memorial is dedicated.

We are extremely grateful to Richard Roberts <richard.nsw@googlemail.com> for this information.
