All Saints' Church is located at the lower end of Brynglas Road in Newport
(Gwent). The War Memorial outside commemorates the dead of the First World
War with the dedication;-
"To the Glory of God and in Honoured Memory of the Men of this Parish
who gave their Lives in the Great War 1914 - 1919".
Above the main plaque is a small tablet erected by ex-Servicemen of the Second
World War, though there are no names on it.
Amongst the many names on the First World War commemoration is that of one soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
Private Albert Pumford. 10780.
6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 23 June 1916.
Born Wolverhampton, Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided Newport (Mon).
Buried NEWPORT (ST. WOOLOS) CEMETERY.
(Shown in the Green Howards Gazette database as having been wounded at the
end of 1915, while serving with the 6th Battalion. Hence served at Gallipoli,
though this is not shown on the Medal Index Card).
