The Newton Abbot War Memorial is a pillar with a figure of Victory on its top. The pillar is in Devon Square, off Queen Street.
At the base of the pillar are 4 bronze plaques, - one on each face, commemorating the dead of the First World War. There are 232 names on these plaques.

Behind the pillar is a wall on which are set bronze plaques commemorating the dead of the Second World War. There are 129 names on these plaques.

Private Joseph Claude Bailey. 42268. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 164281 RFA. Killed 22 March 1918.
Born Newton Abbott (Devon), Enlisted Plymouth.
Commemorated on Panel 31 and 32, POZIERES MEMORIAL.
