The Oadby and Wigston Roll of Honour is located in the Council Chamber at Bushloe House, Station Road, Wigston Magna; formerly a private residence it has for the past 40 years or more been the offices of the Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.
The Oadby and Wigston Borough Council came into existence in 1974 when the two adjoining local councils were amalgamated. Wigston Urban District Council (formed in 1894) was the occupant of Bushloe House at the time and had been since the early 1950s. The War Memorial therefore commemorates those men from the Wigston Parish who fell in both world wars, and does not include men from Oadby. Strictly speaking, the memorial should be simply known as the Wigston Roll of Honour.
The names of 224 men who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated
on this Roll of Honour, together with 87 names for the Second World War.
1 soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is named on this Roll of Honour (together
with 1 Green Howard from the 2nd World War, - Private A G Jones).
Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) has kindly provided photographs of the Oadby and Wigston Roll of Honour.
