The War Memorial, Pateley Bridge

The War Memorial for Pateley Bridge is located in public gardens by Riverbank, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate.
The memorial is a rough-hewn stone of remembrance with four attached bronze plaques bearing the names and inscription in raised lettering.
50 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World and 12 in the Second World War.
Three soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
Private Donald Gladstone Blakeborough, MM. 24701. 13th
Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Harry and Mary E. Blakeborough, of
33, Electric Avenue, Harrogate, Yorks. Native of Pateley Bridge, Harrogate.
Killed 1 January 1918. Aged 20.
Born Pateley Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Leeds, Resided Pateley Bridge.
Buried MORY ABBEY MILITARY CEMETERY, MORY.
Private Henry Knowles. 24177. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of George and Ellen Knowles, of Pateley Bridge, Yorks. Killed
1 July 1916. Aged 20.
Born Pateley Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Tanfield Lodge, Resided Pateley Bridge.
Buried DANTZIG ALLEY BRITISH CEMETERY, MAMETZ.
Private Joseph Stoney. 21581. 1st Garrison Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 21811 West Yorkshire Regt. Son of Christopher
and Margaret Stoney, of Bewerley, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate, Yorks. Died 10
May 1917. Aged 32.
Born Pateley Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Pateley Bridge.
Buried CAPE TOWN (MAITLAND) CEMETERY.
(Shown in CWGC register as being in the West Yorkshire Regiment, - presumably
died while on his way to join the Yorkshire Regiment; listed in the GH Gazette
